Concord Township Issue 1 Tax Levy
A tax levy has been placed on the November 5 ballot to fund a new, incredibly large fire station. If passed, YOU will pay your share of the $10 million in new taxes.
Building this 24,000-square-foot fire station, which is four times bigger than the main station on Rt. 608, will cost $372/square foot. The national average is $193/square foot.
In addition to construction costs, this plan wastes up to $7 million in interest alone. The total cost will be more than $17 million.
Our firefighters and EMS professionals deserve the best resources, but we can’t accept these excessive plans or make Concord taxpayers pay for them over the next 28 years.
We are already overburdened by all the taxes Concord residents pay, including fire, safety, roads and increased property taxes.
There are alternative sources of funding – including the continuous Safety Levy passed in 2015 and more than $1 million of special business taxes collected each year – that won’t raise our taxes.
Other communities in the area deliver five-star safety with new and affordable fire stations.
We fully support our firefighters and EMS professionals but can do so with facilities that are more reasonable – in both size and cost.
We need to send a message to our elected officials to be more prudent and fiscally responsible. We need to defeat Issue 1 on November 5.
